Our Passion

Building sustainable livelihoods and ecosystems, one landscape at a time

We believe that rural poverty and climate change are intrinsically related, creating a need to balance rural economies with the environment. The diagram below illustrates this landscape approach.

a specialized carbon developer, fusing deep expertise in rural livelihoods, smallholder farms, and plantation development with well-designed and -managed carbon-offsetting activities to create meaningful credits with integrity in the market.

    • Crop nutrition input

    • Sustainable crop rotation management

    • Clonal diversification

Our Climate Pillars

  • Forest Conservation and Biodiversity Protection

Incentivizing forest conservation creates economic benefits for forest communities and provides alternatives to timber poaching. In KenEco’s REDD+ projects, effective forest patrolling, biodiversity monitoring and protection, and forestry law enforcement are developed in combination with the local knowledge, practices, and partnership of upland communities and indigenous peoples.

  • Reforestation

Degraded lands suitable for assisted natural regeneration, enrichment planting, and reforestation are given proper planting and post-planting care, as well as maintenance of selected indigenous tree species that yield optimum carbon stock. These are conducted with either a community-based approach or at KenEco-managed tree plantations.

  • Agroforestry

The integration of farming and forestry systems provides stable farm revenues and ecosystem benefits, improving soil health and general farm well-being. Kennemer’s wide experience in cacao, abaca and other commodities with tree farming helps sustain rural economies with climate change mitigation benefits.

Our Climate Services

Program Development

We co-create well-designed carbon-offsetting activities with local implementation partners, communities, and civil society, developing verifiable and investment-ready projects that work according to carbon credit global standards and international verification bodies. We integrate climate solutions with sustainable agroforestry-based livelihood infused with local practices and knowledge.

Community Engagement and Partnerships

We co-manage nature-based conservation and restoration activities with local communities and indigenous peoples in a participative manner. Local involvement and ownership at different stages of each project is key to KenEco’s partnership principle of creating local forest governance capacities.

Carbon Project Technical Support

We approach each project through the lens of landscape development, creating activities from the ground-up aided by satellite imagery and remote sensing technologies, forest management systems, carbon stock assessment, monitoring, reporting, and verification of climate, biodiversity, and communities. Our objective is to produce and deliver quality and auditable credits that are meaningful and of high integrity.
