Kennemer Eco Solutions and NCIP XI Collaborate to Advance Nature-based Solutions in Mindanao

On February 6, 2024, Kennemer Eco Solutions (Kennemer Eco) provided an orientation on the project management cycle of Nature-based Solutions-based voluntary carbon standards to the key officers and field staff of the National Commission on Indigenous People Region 11.

Jonathan Joson, General Manager of Kennemer Eco, served as the speaker based on the request of the NCIP regional office to address the nuances of the different activities involved in the project development/certification process of voluntary carbon and the need for a responsive FPIC and equitable benefit-sharing discussions with indigenous peoples communities in areas where there are ancestral domains. The initiative aims to equip NCIP XI with the necessary knowledge and tools to engage effectively with nature-based solutions projects, thereby fostering sustainable development of indigenous communities and the protection of forests and restoration of deforested landscapes.

Facilitated by NCIP XI, the orientation session sought to deepen the understanding of carbon projects, emphasizing the importance of active involvement with indigenous communities in the planning and implementation of climate programs. This collaboration underscores Kennemer Eco Solutions' and BaiAni Foundation's strong commitment to upholding the integrity of climate programs in Mindanao.

Kennemer Eco Solutions and BaiAni Foundation are implementing climate mitigation activities in the region, including the Mindanao Tree Planting Program for Climate and Communities (MinTrees) and the Mindanao Forest for People and Sustainable Livelihoods (MinFor). These initiatives reflect their dedication to promoting environmental conservation, community empowerment, and sustainable livelihoods.

These efforts are part of the TRANSFORM Activity, a partnership of USAID and Kennemer Foods International, focusing on sustainable development, forest protection, land restoration, and livelihood promotion in focus areas in Mindanao.
